Yes, there is another CRON job for starting the backup: \core\task\automated_backup_task.
We run this hourly, which means that the backup also starts according to the CRON job. In your case I think the CRON is set to Hour = 50 and it will start at 01:50, 02:50, 03:50 ...
This is independent of the time you have set for the course backups - if you set it to 1:10 the backup task will start at 1:50, if you set it to 1:55 you have to wait 55 minutes for the CRON Job to start the backup.
