Confusing Automated Course Backup settings

If you're daily backup with an auto delete of backups olde than "2" days, then I think you'll always see just 2 backups (the current day and the previous day) and the max of 10 will not really apply here. Basically, the maximum isn't necessarily the # of backups you'll always see -- it's just a cap in this case.

I believe the "minimum" works in tandem with "delete backups older than..." and to help prevent all backups from being delete in cases where one has enabled "skip hidden courses," or "skip courses not modified since previous backup".
(https://docs.moodle.org/402/en/Automated_course_backup:"To save disk space, you can choose to delete backups older than a specified number of days. If so, you should also specify a minimum number of backups to be kept. (The settings 'Delete backups older than' and 'Minimum number of backups kept' are new in Moodle 3.0 onwards.)")

With "Never" selected, the minimum won't apply in this case unless you've also enabled "skip hidden courses," or "skip courses not modified since previous backup" -- in this case, the minimum will ensure a backups always exists despite how old a backup file it is and stops it from being auto deleted.
