Now it seems to be a cron issue - or a theme issue.
I found that the cron job stops at processing a theme, which is a modified copy of another theme (academi):

So I copied my Moodle and uninstalled that theme in the copied instance, then the backup was running again. I could re modify the theme, but why should it help? Could the issue be related to the last Moodle update - what do you think?
