Cannot read MBZ file using WinZip

(Moodle 3.1+ (Build: 20160603))

After backing up a course, downloading and changing the extension to 'zip', I can not open it using WInZip. The file is not recognized as a valid ZIPfile.

Any ideas what might be wrong?
