Great suggestions - I'll certainly make progress now.
I hadn't really considered that manual course backups could be that big a chunk, but wow - we've got plenty of cleanup to do. That's what was hitting the biggest courses hardest - large media files + multiple backups = bloat.
Thanks for helping me get started in more proactive management of our rig - this gives me specifics to go to our Ed.Tech. and faculty with, in addition to sorting out my own maintenance tasks.
