After having spent hours pouring over the posts in the Backup and Restore forum I am finally resigned to the fact that all of those end of course backup files we have stored as archives from the last four years on our version 1.9 Moodle site are now not worth the storage they consume since we have migrated to a 2.0 version. Before I purge the archives of all 1.9 backups can anyone refute my assumption that they can no longer be used as course archives (i.e. as a record of the goings on in the course- grades, submissions, email, messages, quizzes, etc.)
