A common problem is if you have custom course fields - It is actually the visibility of the course field - I found it in tracker I believe. If your custom course field is set to be visible to only teachers, it causes this behavior. Enabling it to be fully visible allows the copy to proceed. You can delete the backup in the database under the backup controllers table - you can actually empty this table without breaking anything but BACKUP DB FIRST, to be safe!!
