We have several Moodle LMSs all on different versions, server architecture, etc, that we want to consolidate to a few platforms. Most of these LMSs are on really old versions of Moodle. I am tasked with moving some courses (with user data) from the LMSs we will disassemble into a Moodle 3.11.7 instance. Once the courses are in this Moodle we will upgrade to the latest version per the upgrade path Moodle.org documents.
I've had issues with these backups, though. The files upload fine. The restore process gets to step 5 "Review" without issues. When I click "Perform Restore", it shows a list of roles to map and a warning about the backup being from 3.11.14 and this system being on 3.11.7. After selecting the correct roles and clicking the "continue" button , it processes the backup for a few seconds, then aborts with the "error writing to database" error
Clicking "Continue" then redirects to /backup/restore.php? (Breadcrumbs are Dashboard> Site home) withe the "a required parameter (contextid) was missing".
Clicking "continue" here reloads the page with this error. Clicking "site home" from the breadcrumb redirects to the home page.
Aside from the Moodle minor version mismatch, there are a few plugins from the source LMS that don't exist on the target LMS, and vice versa. I've checked the backup file's contents (opening the mbz with 7Zip), and the backup only contains the course sections, some labels, assigns, URLs, and folder activities. All these activity types are enabled in the target LMS, so not sure what the missing context id is here.
Edit: I have a second 3.11.7 environment (the 'test' environment to the 3.11.7 one mentioned above), which doesn't have this issue with the exact same backup file - the restore process restores the content successfully.
Any help in resolving this is greatly appreciated.
