Server and DB are separated. Currently we run on AWS RDS with MySQL for the database, and EC2 for Moodle. The instance are sized appropriately. In fact, we've actually increased the resources to test if that would help, but to no avail. Health wise it should be good as we have not seen any anomalies after upgrading, but MySQLTuner is an idea. Will look into that.
