It's hard to say. In your experimenting, and as an apparent novice, it could be that you crashed something. Go to Administration, Courses, and see if you have a "demo" course and what other courses you might have.
You might want to read some Moodle docs about all your questions. You can learn a lot from the docs. For example, the docs might have helped you understand the various "restore" options.
