Automated backups are killing my server

Hi everyone,

Is there any working example on how to offload automated backups to another server or at least optimize it on the same server?

We have more than thousand courses and automated backup is slowly and painfully draining all CPU for mysqld resulting in bigger loads that prevents php-fpm from serving HTTP requests.

A wild idea was to replicate mysql server and make backups on separate worker server but I'm not sure whether there's a simpler solution to gain performance.

MySQL tunning and hardware capabilities are already at it's max.

Automated backups are scheduled for Saturday 23:00. usually it was all done by Sunday morning but since we gained a lot of course materials in the meanwhile now it takes time till Monday evening.

Cheers
