I'm not sure, but it perhaps depends on (automatic) restore settings.
If i remember well, when you reset a course (or restore from a backup), dates are changed only if the starting date is changed in the same time as you do the reset (or backup). If you make it in two times, it doesn't change dates.
You'll have to check/verify these possibilities to confirm/infirm that.
