It would certainly be useful to log backups executions in several files (or one only ?) to be able to search in details what happens exactly, what courses are well backuped, on which ones backups hang...
In my case, each backup produces a different log file, and i can then search all of them, to understand problems.
I can then see that sometimes, some courses don't backup well (no "complete" message), and sometimes one course doesn't backup well, and an error message (Table "backup_logs" does not exist) appears, and the backup ends and exit.
