Now I understand the reference to 2.0.2. The bug first discovered in 2.0.2 and continued through all the versions until a certain 2.3.

That doesn't explain what a sprint is. I also checked the http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Tracker_guide in the P.S. It references to "Stable sprint" but doesn't explain what it is.

My observation in the original post confirms that 2.3.3+ is clean of this bug.

It is not, I'm afraid. My observation 2 days ago was that 2.2.6+ still has this bug (see the OP).
