Gary, Warning, this is a non-expert view.
As far as I can tell there are three factors:
- RAM. A small increase of RAM helped me upload a bigger file this week.
- Time out. it if your connection is too slow the upload process can fail.
- TEMP FILE PLACE. There seems to be a temp area that files go into. If this is too small you are also sunk. I say this on the basis of one of our server guys finding something that had gotten full, and tweaked a setting.
It is just sometimes how things come together on the day it seems!!
At any given time with average conditions (like no students thrashing the network) I have found there is a value which is the current biggest file I can upload (on the fringes, this may change and I can get it to upkoad on the throd go) and I suspect this behaviour has to do with the hosting parameters and resources.
