We have virtual server (because the amount of users about 25 000 per a day, not now - holiday . Yesterday was about 8 000 hosts). The main site running on Joomla 3.5 and recently "involded" the part of site as a moodle with math quizzes.
The hosting company supply full services for site hosting (CPanel - ISP, system backup - everynight, shell acces SSH - we have, but do not use; private IP address; ftp - using everyday)
