Moodle 1.9.19 Recent Upgrade. Course Auto Backups HUGE hard drive use

Hi,

I upgraded one of the Moodle's that I am responsible for from 1.9.9 to 1.9.19. Every Sunday we run automated course backups and we keep 2 copies. We have about 700 Meta courses with content (our biggest is 14.5GB of files) and 6000 child courses with no content. =

After the upgrade the course backups ran and our hard drive space exploded. The cron scrip used up over 100GB of hard drive. The only way I could replicate the issue was running the course backup on my dev machine. It did the same thing. Before the code upgrade the server would use perhaps an extra 5 - 10gb absolutely max.

I have a few theories, but wanted to check if anyone knew of any changes?

My theories:

1.) Since the upgrade the new code has changed what it is looking for in the names of its backups. Thus not being able to find the old ones to delete.

2.) The new code is backuping up the old backups as well accidentally.

3.) This moodle is a heavily customised moodle and I had to do a GIT merge with ours (1.9.9) and the stable 1.9.19. I could have screwed the merge up and its running wrong code.

I will investigate these but I wondered if anyone had any thoughts?

Thanks

Mark Chaney
