So, to sum up, there is no manual flag in the database or wherever that I can set to tell Moodle to just skip this course in automated backups until I can at least finish getting all of the content added, right?
That was my initial question.
If that is not possible, I may instead just set up a webDAV directory on the server itself and use it as a repository in Moodle.
Finally, I just want to be clear: There is nothing wrong with the server. It works great. OSX is just another *NIX. If I had had a choice, I would have done this on Linux, but it was kind of an emergency, and the only spare hardware we had was that iMac. For our needs, it was more than adequate, and far better than the virtual specs the IT department was willing to give us. It also has the added benefit of the database server not inadvertently disappearing and breaking people's sessionIDs, locking people out of Moodle for 2 hours or until they manually delete their Moodle Session ID cookie, which, of course, you can't expect users to do, even if you tell them one million times. Compared to that, my little iMac server is a dream.
